The Tehachapi Mountains Birding Club, Tehachapi, California, was organized as an independent birding club and a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, in October, 1998. All donations are tax deductible, greatly appreciated, and will be immediately put to good use supporting the club's programs.

The club is a volunteer-run organization founded to promote the enjoyment of birding, increase general knowledge about birds of the Tehachapi Mountains and to enjoy the fellowship of other birders. Located between central California's Sierra Nevada range to the north and the Tehachapi range to the west, the Tehachapi Pass is used as a common flyway for hundreds of migrating bird species and hosts over 100 breeding species. Members come from Tehachapi, Cummings Valley, Bear Valley Springs, Stallion Springs, Hart Flat and other nearby communities.

Whether you’re noticing birds in your backyard for the first time or already have an extensive lifelist, TMBC has something for you. Membership is a great way to explore significant birdlife habitat areas in Central California, learn more about birding and wildlife biology, and to meet others with similar interests. Please join us at our regular monthly meetings or on a field trip.

Annual membership is $25 for family, $18 per high school student, or $12 for The HOOT newsletter subscription only. Download a printable  TMBC membership application 82.07 Kb.

Monthly meetings provide the opportunity to share birding knowledge, report sightings, and to learn from expert guest speakers. General club meetings are held monthly and are open to all members of the community, not just TMBC members. We generally meet the fourth Monday of the month 7PM at the BeeKay Theater downtown Tehachapi.

Field trips to Kern County locations are held monthly, generally on Sunday mornings. During spring migration we may schedule 2 trips per month. We try to go when and frwhere the birds are. Watch our field trips schedule page for details.
