The Kern Audubon-Tehachapi subchapter schedules birding field trips or walks throughout the year. Most are held on Saturday. We try to go where the birds are. Therefore, the following schedule is tentative depending on the birds, availability of birding sites and weather conditions. Beginners are always welcomed!

Unless otherwise stated, we generally meet near Burger King in the Tehahachapi K-Mart parking lot.

  Kern and Pixley National Wildlife Refuges
  Located near Delano, CA. Good location for wintering waterfowl, hawks plus Sandhill Cranes flying in to roost at sunset. A spectacle not to be missed!
  
  Meet in Tehachapi at 7:00 AM in the K-Mart parking lot near Burger King. In Bakersfield, meet at CostCo at 8:00 AM.

  Flowing Wells Ranch
  This private duck club is located north of California City near Cantil. Several lakes and shallow pools for shorebirds, plus the nearby Rancho de Nada attracts a lot of blackbirds, goldfinch and sparrows. Depending on rainfall, a sink to the east regularly becomes a large lake with large flocks of Snow Geese.

We have a target list of field trips for the next year. Specific dates are yet to be decided as some will depend when the birds are there, getting access, or other coordination.

  April begins the peak of spring migration, so we want to get out more often before it's over! We’ll have to get up early for these, but it’s worth it! Be prepared to see lots of new species that are just passing through - including warblers and flycatchers.
