For the last few weeks, I have been taking early morning strolls through the park in California City, camera in hand. The variety of birds calling this place home is amazing! I have seen snowy egrets, a great blue heron, a green heron (this morning), a pair of black-crowned night herons and a juvenline, a red-shouldered hawk, sand pipers, large flocks of turkey vultures, double-breasted cormorants, hummingbirds by the dozens, wilson's warblers, a barn owl, gold finches, western kingbirds and more! I've met some of the nicest guys who work in the park, and they tell me that there is a woodpecker taking up residence, too.
It is a wonderful way to start my day before I head of to work. Come on down and take a look at what's going on down here in the desert. The birds start moving around 7:30 a.m. There's parking in the park and at Tierra del Sol golf course.

When I arrived home last night around 6:30, I was greeted by the wonderful sound of 2 Great Horned owls "talking amongst themselves." They were perched on my husband's ham radio tower and hung around for about an hour. It was a great treat for us desert folks.
